Encapsulation plant SKB (Svensk Kernbränslehantering)

With 11 power plant units in Sweden approx. 40 % of the electric power is generated in nuclear plants. The spent fuel elements are put into interim storage near Oskarshamn power plant. Final storage is carried out in copper canisters with an internal steel vessel. These will be storaged in granite formations.

For SKB, a subsidiary of the Swedish public electricity supply companies, responsible for the final storage of the Swedish nuclear fuel, Babcock Noell Nuclear worked out a conception for the packaging of the fuel elements in the final storage vessels.
